Diferencias clave

USDT is issued by Tether Limited, based outside the United States. USDC is issued by Circle, a US company licensed as a money transmitter and holding an EU MiCA licence. This gives USDC clearer regulatory standing.

USDC publishes monthly reserve attestations. USDT publishes quarterly attestations by BDO. USDC is generally viewed as the more transparent of the two.

USDT has a much larger market cap and higher daily trading volume, which makes it the most liquid stablecoin and the dominant trading pair worldwide.

USDC is the preferred stablecoin for US-based institutions and compliance-focused DeFi protocols because of Circle's regulatory status.

USDT dominates trading on offshore exchanges and on the Tron network. USDC has stronger adoption on Ethereum, Base and US-regulated platforms.

¿Cuál deberías elegir?

USDT and USDC are the two most used dollar stablecoins. USDT offers the most liquidity and the broadest exchange support, which makes it the default choice for trading on global exchanges. USDC offers stronger transparency and regulatory standing, which makes it the usual choice for US-based users, institutions and DeFi protocols that prioritize compliance. Both have held close to $1 for most of their history, with brief deviations. The choice often comes down to your jurisdiction and how you weigh issuer risk.

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Es USDC más seguro que USDT?
USDC is generally considered more transparent because of its monthly reserve attestations and Circle's US regulatory status. USDT has traded close to $1 for over a decade, with brief deviations, and has the largest market cap. Both carry issuer risk: their value depends on the reserves and solvency of the issuing company.
¿Valen siempre USDT y USDC exactamente $1?
Both are designed to be redeemable 1:1 for US dollars, but their market price can deviate briefly during stress. For example, USDC dipped to about $0.87 in March 2023 when Silicon Valley Bank, which held part of its reserves, collapsed; it recovered within days. USDT has also traded below $1 for short periods.
¿Qué stablecoin tiene mayor volumen de operaciones?
USDT consistently has the highest trading volume of any cryptocurrency, not just among stablecoins. It is the dominant trading pair on most global exchanges. USDC has significant volume but trails USDT by a wide margin; see CoinGecko for live figures.
¿Puedo obtener rendimiento con USDT y USDC?
Yes. Both can be lent through DeFi protocols such as Aave or Compound, and many platforms pay a yield on stablecoin deposits. Coinstancy Dollar Savings pays a yield on USDC. Rates vary by platform and with market conditions, and every option carries platform or protocol risk. Check how a platform holds your funds before depositing.
¿Qué cadenas de bloques soportan USDT y USDC?
Both exist on many blockchains. USDT is issued on Ethereum, Tron, Solana, Avalanche, Polygon and others, with Tron a major network for USDT specifically. USDC is issued natively on Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon and more. Check the issuers' websites for the current lists.
